Hot Fun In The Summer Sun At West Palm Beach Shows July 11th and 12th
Summer’s simmering, sizzling and at times very turbulent weather signals a prelude for the beginning of hurricane season while at the same time it brings to a close the first half of the dog show season in Florida.
The dog shows in our state traditionally commence with the Winter Classic in January, which usually spans 3 weekends with about 12 shows in Central Florida. In the following 6 months the venues will alternate localities, meandering and crisscrossing the state from the panhandle, curving their way down to South Florida, looping back up to north Florida, sauntering down into the central part of the state again before settling back down in West Palm Beach for these July shows at the South Florida Fairgrounds on Southern Blvd just east of US 441.
At the conclusion of the West Palm Beach dog shows on July 11th and 12th, there will be a 10-week hiatus, signaling a brief spell and much needed respite for our dogs that will last until the end of September when the second half of our show season will crank up again at the Deland Fl venue. Once again the state will be traversed from central to north back down to central and ultimately concluded in December with the 3-day Orlando show weekend that follows a 4-day cluster in Miami.
For Chambray Labradors and the vast number of owners, exhibitors and breeders that make up our ever-growing Labrador owner’s community, West Palm Beach has become the northern end of our “backyard”. Traditionally, Miami has been our biggest draw both in numbers of dogs entered and also in attendance and support from our loyal owners, however in recent years the demographics of our puppy placements has changed, with more and more puppies locating in Broward, Palm Beach and further north counties. This has reflected in larger attendances both in dogs entered and also with many more of our owners coming out as spectators to root on for their home team at West Palm.
Entering this weekend of shows, several of our seasoned dogs are red hot with recent wins and they arrive at these shows riding a wave with a full head of steam and very anxious for those elusive Winner’s points. Also of special interest are several of our newest puppies from the Class of 2009 that will be debuting and competing for the ribbons and hopefully go all the way and be in the mix for points as well.
For those attending the shows, the following is a lineup of the dogs and their classes and handlers for the weekend.
Attending these shows and leading the male’s pack will be Chambrays Bailey On The Rocks (owned by Faith Bandklayder and Neil Wasserman) who currently has 9 points and just lacks 2 major wins to finish his AKC title. Bailey is owner/handled by Jessie Herzon from the Bred By Exhibitor class.
Also expected at these shows will be Chambrays Curious George, who recently added his second win to his resume and now has both majors with 6 points. Georgie is owned By Dr Buzzetti of Ft Lauderdale and is handled by Irene Russeou.
Returning to the lineup at WPB and coming in third on the ranking’s chart is WinQuest Chambray Storm Warning Cane (owned by Tracy Graham), who as a 7 month old surprised everybody last year at these same shows by winning Saturday’s show. He then repeated the feat on Sunday and ended up racking 4 points for the weekend. Cane is handled by Ryan Herzon from the American Bred Class.
Chambrays I Walk The Line (Cash, owned by Jen and Chris Hupert), now with 1 point also be in the thick of things for the weekend, will show from the 12 to 18 class and is also handled by Ryan Herzon.
Several of our top-notch male competitors will also be in the hunt for their first points, including: · WinQuest Chambrays Sir Cadbury Oh Your Heartbreaker (Owned by Nina & Edgar Otto, Open Class - Johanna Herzon) · Chambrays Bearfoot Buddy (Owned by Cindy Reisman, Open Class - Sandy Herzon) · Chambrays Handsome Island Boy Louie (Owned by Eva & Richard Arnold, Am Bred - Sandy Herzon) · Chambrays Ruff Rider (owned and handled by Matt Chapman from the 12 to 18) · Chambrays Sunny Daze (owned by Mary and Bob Jakeway, 6 to 9 – Sandy Herzon)
On the girl's side of the fence we have several that have been streaking lately with awesome wins, including 2 that have won major-pointed Winners Bitch at the recent shows in Orlando. Most of the following will be competing at the West Palm Beach show.
Chambrays And The Beat Goes On (Cher, owned by Mary & Bob Jakeway) scored her first win for the year, a 3-point major at the Orlando shows on June 20th, bringing her total point count to 7 and the 1 major. Cher is handled by Jessica from the Bred By Exhibitor Class.
WinQuest Chambrays N Nick O Time (owned by Lydia Castellanos & Ray Santos) also joined in the winning ways at the Orlando shows by matching Cher’s 3-point major win on June 21st, giving her 3 Winners Bitch wins for 2009 and padding her total points to 6 and the 1 major. Nikki is handled by Dennis Williams in the Black Open Class.
Chambrays Dakota On Deck owned and handled by Jessie Schulz now has a 3-point major win to her credit and lately has been placing from the tough Open yellow class.
Chambrays Eloquent N Counter (Ellie, owned by Val Till and handled by Johanna Herzon) storms onto the scoreboard with a 2-point Winners Bitch at the Ft Myers dog show in May, unfortunately Ellie and her owner will not be making the trip over from Brooksville for this show.
Chambrays Stella’s Desire (owned by Debra Richmond and Dave Baxter and handled by Ryan Herzon) has also claimed a stake in the point standings with a Winners Bitch win back at the Boca Raton shows in February.
There are several of our girls that have yet to get on the scoreboard with points; however each is a serious contender at any given show.
As a special treat our super star BIS Ch Chambrays Out Of The Ruff (Hogan) will be competing for the coveted Best Of Breed ribbons, hoping to add to his Chambray BOB record (20). There are 11 of his kids entered at these shows with 6 of them already champion-pointed and well on their way to their own champion’s title.
Come out and cheer your team on. If you are planning on attending, I should have the rings and times by July 6th, so email me for times.
NEWSFLASH: 06/26/2009 There are enough females entered to make it a Major-Pointed show for females, so a male can also attain a major win by going Best Of Winners over the female winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!
